Dermal fillers are generally well-tolerated by most people, although there is a chance of temporary headaches and of bruising at the injection site. Rarely, there is a possibility of a droopy eyelid or asymmetry, both of which are temporary and reversible. The most common side effects of dermal fillers are mild tenderness after the injection, swelling (lips) and tiny bruises at the injection site. More rare side effects include the possibility of an allergic reaction, lumps or bumps or vascular occlusion (clogged vessel). While these side effects are extremely rare, Dr. Lewin is not only an experienced injector but also a medical doctor who can attend to these events quickly and effectively.
Botox® treatments are completed in about ten minutes. They start working in three to seven days, reaches its peak in 14-30 days and lasts for a total of three to four months. Dermal filler treatments take 30-60 minutes with immediately visible results that will last from six to twelve months. The effects of Botox® will begin to wear off after two to three months, depending on a variety of factors. The optimal interval between injections is approximately three to four months, to avoid developing resistance to its effects.
The short answer is not really. You may find the injections momentarily uncomfortable, but in general, they are well-tolerated. Botox® injections are over very quickly and involve small pokes into each muscle with a tiny needle. With dermal fillers, it depends on which area is being injected. Lips tend to be the most sensitive, and so Dr. Lewin will use a numbing cream to minimize the discomfort. If that is not enough, she can freeze your lips so that you are more comfortable throughout the procedure.
